A bird’s eye view on the flat and conic band world of the honeycomb and Kagome lattices: towards an understanding of 2D metal-organic frameworks electronic structure

چکیده
We present a thorough tight-binding analysis of the band structure of a wide variety of lattices belonging to the class of honeycomb and Kagome systems including several mixed forms combining both lattices. The band structure of these systems are made of a combination of dispersive and flat bands. The dispersive bands possess Dirac cones (linear dispersion) at the six corners (K points) of the Brillouin zone although in peculiar cases Dirac cones at the center of the zone (Γ point) appear. The flat bands can be of different nature. Most of them are tangent to the dispersive bands at the center of the zone but some, for symmetry reasons, do not hybridize with other states. The objective of our work is to provide an analysis of a wide class of so-called ligand-decorated honeycomb Kagome lattices that are observed in a 2D metal-organic framework where the ligand occupy honeycomb sites and the metallic atoms the Kagome sites. We show that the px-py graphene model is relevant in these systems and there exists four types of flat bands: Kagome flat (singly degenerate) bands, two kinds of ligandcentered flat bands (A2 like and E like, respectively doubly and singly degenerate) and metalcentered (three fold degenerate) flat bands.

متن کاملMetal-organic Kagome lattices M3(2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene)2 (M = Ni and Cu): from semiconducting to metallic by metal substitution.
Motivated by recent experimental synthesis of a semiconducting metal-organic graphene analogue (J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2014, 136, 8859), i.e., Ni3(2,3,6,7,10,11-hexaiminotriphenylene)2 [Ni3(HITP)2], a new Kagome lattice, Cu3(HITP)2, is designed by substituting the coordination of Ni by Cu. Such substitution results in interesting changes in electronic properties of the M3(HITP)2 bulk and two-dimens...
متن کاملMagnetic field effects on two-dimensional Kagome lattices
Magnetic field effects on single-particle energy bands (Hofstadter butterfly), Hall conductance, flat-band ferromagnetism, and magnetoresistance of twodimensional Kagome lattices are studied. The flat-band ferromagnetism is shown to be broken as the flat-band has finite dispersion in the magnetic field. A metal-insulator transition induced by the magnetic field (giant negative magnetoresistance...
متن کاملTight- binding study of electronic band structure of anisotropic honeycomb lattice
The two-dimensional structure of graphene, consisting of an isotropic hexagonal lattice of carbon atoms, shows fascinating electronic properties, such as a gapless energy band and Dirac fermion behavior of electrons at fermi surface. Anisotropy can be induced in this structure by electrochemical pressure. In this article, by using tight-binding method, we review anisotropy effects in the elect...
